HSE to run new Building Safety Regulator

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick yesterday (20 January) told MPs that the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has been asked to establish the new Building Safety Regulator. The new body will have oversight over the design, construction and occupation of high-risk buildings.

The announcement follows inquiries into how and why the 2017 Grenfell Tower tragedy took place.

ECA has called on the Government to put in place tougher rules, including measures to ensure competency, in order to protect vulnerable people such as tenants and the elderly, who live in high-risk buildings.
