Study: battery storage key to cutting renewables waste

A new study from renewable energy consultancy firm LCP suggests that an increase of 20GWh of battery storage could reduce the amount of wasted wind energy in Great Britain by up to 50%.

Excess, unused wind power is estimated to cost around £1 billion by 2025, highlighting the need for “rapidly scaling up battery storage capacity” according to LCP.

Rajiv Gogna, partner at LCP, said to Current, “It’s crucial that investors work with optimisers and traders who can switch between these markets [renewable energy and battery storage] effectively when opportunities arise, and have access to the best tools and forecasts to trade effectively.”
