Coronavirus ‘reasonable excuse’ for late tax

Coronavirus ‘reasonable excuse’ for late tax

The government has announced that they will consider the coronavirus pandemic as a potentially reasonable excuse for late HMRC tax filing.

If a business can prove it has been impacted by Covid-19, they may be able make a successful appeal against HMRC. As this will be considered on a case-by-case basis, it is advisable to speak to HMRC before the tax return deadline of 31 January to clarify whether you have a ‘reasonable excuse’ – and to pay on time if possible.
