Situation regarding the new Tier 4

Situation regarding the new Tier 4

Please see information below following Saturday afternoon’s PM announcement of new Tier 4 level restrictions.

The new restrictions currently apply mainly in London and parts of the South East/East of England (please see below).

In terms of how Tier 4 applies to construction and other contracting activity, the following update refers to the Government guidance*:

The PM specifically mentioned ‘construction’ as an activity that can continue.

Those living in Tier 4 areas may continue to travel to work, where work cannot be undertaken at home.

It is also allowable to travel into a Tier 4 area from a Tier 1,2 or 3 area for work purposes, again where work cannot be done at home. Similarly, it is allowable to travel out of a Tier 4 area for work, where the work cannot be done at home;

It is still allowable for tradespeople to work in other people's homes;

However, in all work situations above the relevant government ‘COVID secure’ guidance (notably for ‘Construction’ and ‘Working in other people’s homes’) must be followed**;

Builder’s merchants and other suppliers of building products (by way of providing ‘essential goods and services’) can also remain open - provided they can operate safely.
