Sixth Carbon Budget published
The UK Climate Change Committee (CCC) has published its sixth Carbon Budget, a report which outlines the measures required to meet the nation’s Net Zero carbon emissions targets.
Building on previous research and reporting by the CCC, this latest report provides ministers with advice on the volume of greenhouse gases the UK can emit during the period 2033-2037 while progressing towards Net Zero.
Recommendations include hosting 100GW of offshore wind generation capacity by 2050, and ensuring all new cars, vans and replacement boilers are operationally zero-carbon by the early 2030s.
The full report and executive summary can be viewed here.
CCC chief executive Chris Stark said the recommendations were “ ambitious and very challenging”, but “feasible” and “very appealing” to a wide range of groups from across industry and government.
ECA recently launched a series of short videos highlighting concrete actions the electrotechnical industry can take to help meet the government’s climate targets. Watch these and learn more here.
