Skanska switches to EVs
Construction firm and ECA Member Skanska is set to offer its staff electric company cars from 1 December. The switch could save an estimated 12,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Gregor Craig, Skanska UK President and CEO, said in Construction Enquirer, “We have heard of many commitments to reducing CO2 emissions in the construction industry over the last year.
“In the longer term there has to be a relentless focus on collaboration between contractors, their customers and the supply chain to make meaningful advances towards reaching our targets.”
He added that the move represented a “mindset change” for the company which should help to significantly reduce the company’s carbon emissions and help achieve it’s goal of net zero carbon by 2045 – five years earlier than the government’s 2050 target.
