UKCA in effect from 1st January

UKCA in effect from 1st January

As of 1st January 2021, UKCA marking for construction products will come into effect.

There will be a transition period of 1 year, up to 31st December 2021, during which both CE marking and UKCA marking for construction products will be allowed.

However, as of 1st January 2022, it will be a compulsory requirement for cables used in UK construction to be UKCA marked.

UKCA, which stands for UK Conformity Assessed, is a new UK-specific product marking which will need to be used on all construction products and goods on the market in Great Britain, across England, Wales and Scotland.

It covers most goods which currently require CE marking. Cables are currently classified under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) in respect to reaction to fire properties, the UKCA scheme will mirror the current CPR testing and auditing AVCP system.
