EVs can create 32k jobs
A new report from environmental organisation Greenpeace says that a phase-out of the sale of ICE cars and vans in the UK by 2030, rather than the current Government deadline of 2035, could help create up to 32,000 jobs and boost GDP by £4.2 billion.
Earlier this year, ECA urged the Government to bring this date forward to 2030 in a submission to the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).
The Greenpeace report reads, “A phase out of ICEs will require a rapid deployment of charging infrastructure. The vast majority of this will be at drivers’ homes.”
“The more rapid transition is expected to create additional economic activity and jobs in the UK; GDP could be up to 0.2% higher, and an additional 32,000 jobs created across the economy in 2030.”
